Wonder Woman of the Week: Rachel Parris
Our Wonder Woman this week is a comedian who floors her prey with laughter and song as a comedian, musician, and television presenter. Rachel Parris was born in the UK in 1984 and got her Bachelor's Degree from St Hilda's College at Oxford in music before getting a Master's Degree in acting. Parris gained early roles in improvisational comedy in 2007. In 2010, Parris joined the Oxford Imps and would expand to include nation-wide tours as an improvisational comedian by 2014. In 2013, Parris began appearing in television and film with minor roles at first building into a series of roles as a television presenter on shows like Thronecast and Mock the Week. In 2018, Parris earned Female First's Comedian of the Year award, beating Ellen DeGeneres and Amy Schumer for the prize. What makes Parris stand out as a comedian is her ability to take serious topics in an era of hyperawareness and find a way to both educate her audiences while simultaneously educating them on important issues including immigration, sexual harassment, and cyberbullying on par (if not better than) John Stewart and other American satirical news casters.
