Wonder Woman of the Week: Masiela Lusha
The Wonder Woman this week is an actress, writer, poet, and translator along with an active United Nations Goodwill Ambassador and a refugee. Masiela Lusha was only a young child when the Albanian Civil War erupted out of a financial crisis in the former Soviet country. Moving first to Hungary and later to Austria; Lusha spent much of her early childhood in refugee camps before she moved to the United States with her family at seven years old. At twelve, Lusha began working minor modeling jobs in her new home in Michigan and caught the attention of acting scouts soon thereafter. By the following year, Lusha not only earned her first acting role, she also published her first book of poetry.
Masiela Lusha doubled careers while receiving homeschooling for high school classes during her tenure on the internationally syndicated The George Lopez Show. Not only would she earn awards for her performance on the show, Lusha would go on to publish more books on poetry. By 2010, Lusha had already published seven books of poetry and starred in several other television shows and movies. Throughout her life, Lusha participated in several charitable causes including providing free books for public schools across the US, assisting at-risk youth in Lesotho, and earning the title of Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations for her work in providing low income families across the world with affordable housing, increasing inter-ethnic and inter-cultural cooperation, expanding democratic participation worldwide, and promoting gender equality movements.
