Wonder Woman of the Week: Kira Kosarin

Our Wonder Woman this week is an actress who portrays a superhero on television more children know about than adults. Kira Kosarin is an actress best known for portraying Phoebe Thunderman in the Nickelodeon show The Thundermans about a family of superheroes and which is aimed at a youth audience. But that doesn't dilute the actress' importance as her performance has helped inspire young girls who have seen the show feel strong, empowered, and super in their own rights. Kosarin was raised by two Broadway actors in Florida before starting her own acting and musical careers including a musical YouTube channel, appearances in other Nickelodeon television shows and films, and appearing in a leading role in Hulu's Light as a Feather.
As several superhero movies gain higher and higher age restrictions, it's more important than ever that children have strong superhero role models to look up too. That's doubly important for young girls who only have a small number of super-heroines brought to the screen. Kira Kosarin's portrayal of a female superhero in a child friendly television show helped introduce young girls to the truth that women can be just as strong as men. Beyond that, Kosarin continues to expand her career as an actress and musician, so there's no knowing what new horizons this Wonder Woman will steer herself towards.
