Wonder Woman of the Week: Kelly Jury
Our Wonder Woman this week is one of the many underrated athletes of New Zealand netball. Netball is a sport similar to basketball and is popular as a women's sport among former British colonies- including New Zealand which has one of the top international teams. Kelly Jury began playing for New Zealand's international team- the Silver Ferns- in 2017 against England in the U21's and helped lead the team to an international title. At the 2018 Jury was part of the first Silver Fern team to not medal in the games due to a defeat against Jamaica for the Bronze. That didn't stop Jury though from improvi9ng her game and continuing to play.
Kelly Jury joined the Central Pulse team in New Zealand's top netball league- the ANZ Premiership and helped the team lead a dominating season ending in a second consecutive championship title in the league. All of this came after recovering from surgery limiting her playing time in the previous season. Jury's defensive play as goal keeper and goal defense made the Pulse defense a major obstacle for the other teams in the league earning her a roster on the 2021 Pulse team.
