Australian rules football is no doubt the most popular sport in the land "down under," but it's not just for the boys. Aussie rules football has long been a major sport for Australian women. In fact, when a women's league for the sport started in 2017, attendance and viewership numbers far exceeded expectations. This week's Wonder Woman is considered one of the top athletes in the sport. Karen Paxman was born in 1988 and started playing the sport when she was sixteen. In her first four years of competition, the young athlete earned three "Best and Fairest" awards for her talent at the game and helped her team reach major success in their division.

Karen Paxman' success continued when she entered the senior level. In her inaugural senior season in 2017, Paxman made a serious name for herself by leading her team in Melbourne through a successful season. In 2018, Paxman earned spots on multiple "All-Australian" lists for her athletic accomplishments. Part of what highlights Paxman's success is her no-frills approach to the sport. Rather than trying to make her movement down the pitch look like artwork, she makes art of minimizing flare and maximizing sheer athleticism as evident from her impressive goal scoring record, her competitiveness, and her consistency.
