There are few actresses who have the power to bring to life a character capable of inspiring an entire generation to live lives of unapologetic sincerity to their character, but this week's Wonder Woman in certainly one of them. Jenna Ortega was born in California in 2002, but never had a chance to have what she refers to as a "normal childhood" because she entered into the world of television and film at a young age. The young actress had her first role at age six with ensuing minor roles in both television and film- including a minor role in Iron Man 3 and a supporting role in the second Insidious film.
In 2014, Ortega began gaining recurring roles in television both in Australia and the United States with shows like Rake and Jane the Virgin. From 2016-2018, Ortega got her first major role with a leading role in the Disney Channel show Stuck in the Middle, a role which would earn her several awards and award nominations. In the same year, Ortega joined the cast of the widely popular cartoon Elena of Avalor and earned further awards for her role in that show as well.
Between 2018-2020, Jenna Ortega earned supporting roles in several more films and shows including an award-winning performance in Saving Flora. Her career seemed to plateau from there though as Ortega began accepting roles in films that came with mixed reviews, but the young actress continued to push through her career to enter into the new decade with new roles.
Ortega's career turned back towards success after more praise-earning success with her 2021 film The Fallout. Between 2020-2022, Ortega appeared in three horror films. Then came Wednesday. In 2022, Netflix premiered an Ortega-led series centered around the comic character Wednesday Addams of the literary Addams Family- and boy was that show a success, rapidly earning a second season besides earning Ortega major roles in further television series and films.
Offstage, Ortega us public about her support for the Hispanic-Americans, immigration reform, and protections for the LGBT community. Ortega has also worked to help raise funds for cancer research and raise awareness of WE Day- an organization focused on giving young people an elevated voice in global issues and policy. Ortega is one of many Hispanic actors today who is helping to reshape the role of the Hispanic community in television and film in a diverse range of roles to inspire new generations of future performers.
