Our Wonder Woman this week may just have a very real superpower- that or she's simply one of the greatest doctors on the planet (could go either way). Dr. Helena Ndume was born in Namibia in about 1960 (possibly 1959), but went to Germany to become a medical doctor. In 1989, Dr. Ndume returned to her home country to begin a medical internship; and her miracle work began. An ophthalmologist, Dr. Ndume focused on treating patients with issues with sight; and after completing her studies and earning her MD, Ndume finally returned to Namibia to begin work as a certified eye doctor.
Once established in Namibia, Dr. Ndume started a chapter of Surgical Eye Expeditions International which operated affordable eye care clinics around the world. Soon after, Dr. Ndume because a vice chairwoman of Namibia's branch of the Red Cross. During that time, Ndume worked to help countless Namibians overcome eyesight complications due to cataracts and earned praise for her humanitarian work both within the Red Cross and beyond. Today, the good doctor treats over five hundred patients per year with issues with eyesight, and has gone on to receive countless awards for her humanitarian work.
