Wonder Woman of the Week: Amy Renee Noonan Heidemann
Welcome back everyone to another Wonder Woman of the Week! Our Wonder Woman this week is a successful musician whose work includes two separate bands- both of which produced award winning music. Amy Renee Noonan Heidemann was born Amy Renee Heidemann in 1986 in Nebraska. Noonan would later attend Berklee College of Music in Boston before joining up with fellow musician Nick Noonan (and future husband) in 2010. The two began their career by producing cover songs on YouTube, but quickly picked up a record deal with Epic Records in 2012. While the critics responded to their first album with poor reviews, the album was a commercial hit (add one point for democracy!). That commercial success led the two to produce more original singles which earned them several awards and award nominations.
Karmin dissolved in 2017 when Heidemann took the lead of her musical duo and formed a new stage persona- Qveen Herbie. The name was a combination of her college nickname of Qveen and a reference to her home state of Nebraska with Herby (a local university's mascot). Heidemann's husband remained a part of the new persona- though in a lesser role than with Karmin. Over the next several years, Heidemann released several singles- even under Covid restrictions- and released her first full album under Qveen Herby in 2021. While Karmin was more of an alternative sound, Qveen Herby allowed Heidemann to flex her skills in hip hop and rap genres, earning high praise from critics. Like other musicians we've discussed in this blog before, Heidemann is one of those musicians who was able to rise from obscurity to create incredible music under multiple identities to carve out a place in the music industry for her work.
