With Shark Week just around the corner, WWW is continuing its annual tradition of spotlighting ichthyologists (biologists that study fish) that focus their research on sharks and shark conservation. This week's Wonder Woman is an ichthyologist that focuses her research on the Bahamas- particularly lemon sharks. Kristine Stump researches how climate change is affecting shark habitats in the Bahamas and potential conservation efforts in how to prevent endangered sharks from going extinct.

Several species of sharks are irreplaceable for their role in marine environments- and if these species (including lemon sharks) could lead to an irreparable crisis for marine habitats. Thanks to Stump and ichthyologists, not only are conservationists able to better protect these fragile environments and the sharks that call them home, they are also better able to predict climate change trends and educate the public on how to better interact with marine ecosystems in a way that keeps humans and sharks safer.
