Senator Kamala Harris of California made the news recently when she boldly interrogated Attorney General Jeff Sessions over allegations of connections between Russian hackers and the Trump presidential campaign. After the hearing, Harris was referred to as "hysterical" for her approach to questioning; but Harris is far more than a "hysterical" woman. As Attorney General of California, Harris cracked down on gang violence and illegal arms trade in her state. [1] (Which you can learn more about from the video below)
Afterwards, Harris fought for the rights of homeowners when banks conducted illegal activity in mortgage shares; winning California homeowners $20 Billion in lawsuits as well as helping to establish the "Homeowner Bill of Rights" in California. [1] After serving in several state, county, and municipal posts, Kamala Harris went national when she became one of California's two officials elected to the US Senate. There, she quickly gained prominence as a member of the Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs Committee. True to her career history as an advocate for the rights of children and families, Harris devoted her post in the committee to protecting the rights of immigrant children- predominantly from Central America- as well as increasing the numbers of refugees admitted from war-torn Syria. [1] (Which you can learn more about from John Oliver)
But the hearing that put Senator Kamala Harris's name in every American household was based on a long, indoctrinated belief that women who assume authority, take action, and demand responsible behavior from their peers are "hysterical." (And to better understand the sexism in this, check yourself with this video)
So in the end, Kamala Harris' true story tells the tale of a strong woman driven by her compassion for children and families receiving just treatment and finding justice for those who abuse that demographic. She fought crime violence, illegal arms trade, truancy, and mass refugee crises with the exact stratagem Wonder Woman herself is famous for- treating all people like human beings, upholding justice, and fueling her drive for combating world problems with compassion.
