Wonder Woman of the Week: Amy Poehler

It’s about time Amy Poehler is on here. Whether it was her on screen antics or her off-screen badassitude- Poehler has deserved a place on the Wonder Woman blog for a long time. Well here she is folks.

Amy Poehler was born in Boston to two college professors, which usually amounts to raising some pretty intelligent children. Poehler was no exception. She quickly developed a love for performing arts and joined an improvisational acting group while attending university at Boston College. After graduating, she moved to Chicago and joined a professional acting troupe that including the hilarious Stephen Colbert, the wild Chris Farley, and the Wonder Woman of the Week alum Tina Fey.

After joining the comedy troupe “Upright Citizens Brigade,” Poehler moved to New York City and soon joined the cast of Saturday Night Live. Her first day on the job was a tough one. Her first performance was the first episode following the attacks on 9/11 and her first sketch was beside Will Ferrel who was wearing a patriotic man-thong. Midway through the season however, Poehler was promoted to full-time cast member being the first woman in the show’s history to earn the honor. Amy Poehler soon joined her friend from Chicago- Tina Fey- as a host of the SNL Weekend Update.

Poehler left SNL after giving birth to her first child in 2008, but bounced back into show business with the tv series Parks and Recreation. She also started a web series called “Smart Girls at the Party” about women changing the world by being their hardcore selves. Poehler had her second child in 2010 and continued to play the eager bureaucrat on Parks and Rec.
