Wonder Woman of the Week: Shakira
While several millions of people worldwide have heard this week's Wonder Woman's music- most are unaware of the musician's standing as one of the most intelligent people on the planet. Fluent in several languages and holder of one of the highest IQ scores on the planet, Shakira is a multitalented musician, songwriter, and linguist whose work inspires dance, music, and cooperative peace across the globe. Shakira was born Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll in Colombia to Colombian and Lebanese parents and learned music from an early age. At only thirteen years old, Shakira made her first studio album under Sony Music Colombia and has since been called the Queen of Latin Music.
Most people are aware of Shakira's singing skills though. What fewer know is Shakir'a genius- literally. Shakira holds one of the highest IQ scores in the world. She holds a score of 140. That being said however, the IQ test does favor multilingual individuals- with recent studies into the famous test finding test takers who are fluent in several languages almost always outperform monolingual test takers. That comes as no surprise then because Shakira is fluent in Spanish, English, Portuguese, Italian, and Arabic.
That multilingual background helped Shakira reach a world-wide audience, giving her the skill and talent at singing in multiple languages- winning awards for both Spanish and English language albums. Winning several wards, Shakiria is one of the most decorated musicians in the world today. In 1997, Shakira founded the Pies Descalzos Foundation in to raise funds for schools in Colombia in impoverished regions. In 2005, Shakira became a founding member of Latin America in Solidarity Action- a group devoted to increasing the quality of public education across Latin America and later became a UN Goodwill Ambassador for her work in improving education in Latin America.
