Visit the Birthplace of America

ree

Did you know that Philadelphia was almost the capital of the United States? Although it lost out to Washington, DC, the Pennsylvania city is still full of history. If you want to know anything

about the start of the nation, or just want to look at some cool stuff from the past, here are some

Philadelphia landmarks that you just can’t miss. A perfect place to start is the Museum of the American Revolution. Learn about the people who fought in the Revolution and what they endured. Complete your visit with an interactive exhibit that will take you back to the 1700s.

From there, it’s a short walk to Independence Hall, the building where the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were both signed. Learn about the earliest decisions made by the American government with a guided tour or by exploring the building yourself. Another place that’s great to explore is Betsy Ross’ house. You can walk through to get a glimpse into the life of the creator of the American flag and take a look at the room where the very first one was sewn.

Your time in Philadelphia simply won’t be complete without a visit to the Liberty Bell. While its first use was simply to alert citizens that the Declaration of Independence was being read at Independence Hall, over time it became a symbol of freedom. Unfortunately, they no longer allow tourists to touch the bell, but you can still check out its legendary crack up close. While you’re in town, don’t forget to try a classic Philly cheesesteak. It might not date back to the birth of the nation, but it has been a staple of Philadelphia food for almost a hundred years. Check out Pat’s King of Steaks, where brothers Pat and Harry Olivieri created the first one back in the 1930s.
