Woah, time traveling always gives me a head rush. Hi there time traveler. I'm Iris the Amazon- your trusted travel guide through time. We're in 6th Century Constantinople and we better get to work if we're going to make sure Byzantine Empress Theodora isn't lost to history forever. Let's talk to this guard and see what he knows.

Make sure to ask the guard about any suspicious activity he may have noticed in the city. He may have clues as to who is responsible.

Who is Empress Theodora?
Empress Theodora is the most august and pious wife of our sovereign, Emperor Justinian. She is crowned by God, protector of the faith, and co-ruler of the Roman Empire. Her wisdom matches her beauty, and her voice carries weight in matters of state, law, and church. The Empress is a beacon of strength to the people and a terror to those who oppose divine order. Long may she reign beside His Imperial Majesty.
Who is troubling Empress Theodora?
By the grace of the Pantokrator, I cannot yet say who dares trouble Her Imperial Majesty. But I have seen a woman—disheveled, clad in a white dress—wandering near the Sacred Palace. Her manner was not that of a handmaiden nor noblewoman. I’ve reported the sighting to the Captain of the Watch. If she bears ill intent, she shall answer to God, the Empress, and the might of Constantinople.
Can you tell me more about this woman?
It is not for me to speak blasphemy, but I was taught of Eris, the bringer of strife—the goddess who cast the golden apple and shattered the peace of Olympus. If I be mad, may Saint Michael strike me down, but I believe some spirit of discord walks among us… and her eyes were fixed upon the Empress.
Can you take us to the royal palace?
I can lead you to the Sacred Palace, but such paths are not walked lightly. I've been given guard duty for the hippodrome tonight where there will be an important chariot race. By my rank and honor, I shall protect you on our entrance into the city.
So... new swords arrive as the races falter. Curious timing.

Why are the chariot races so important to Empress Theodora?
Throughout the early half of the Byzantine Empire, chariot races were more than just a sport. Gambling was a major part of the culture in Constantinople. During one race, attendees became so enraged during the race that a riot erupted into the streets. Emperor Justinian had to decide- flee the city or stay and deploy the army to pacify the crowds. Empress Theodora told him to stay, and the rest is history.

Delays do not happen in my Constantinople without cause. Either the wheels are sabotaged, the drivers paid off, or someone wishes to silence the roar of the Blues and Greens. And then, like ghosts from a distant war—mercenaries arrive at my gates?
What are the chariot races?
They are the thunder of the Empire’s heart. The roar of the people, the breath of the masses. More than sport—far more. In that Hippodrome, fortunes rise and fall, loyalties are declared, and revolts begin or end.
How can we help?
If you truly wish to help, then listen well. My husband is unveiling a new mosaic at the hippodrome to celebrate tonight's race, but someone has shattered the fresco. Go to the hippodrome and help reassemble the mosaic, and the races can go on as planned."
Well if my eyes do not deceive me! Welcome travelers to the hippodrome. I hope you're here to help me reassemble the emperor's new mosaic. It seems a vandal has tried to shatter it to delay the games. Help me reassemble it and we may just have our races as planned.
Excellent! Now all that's left to do is clear the tracks in preparation for the races!

That's not a bad hiding spot, but I think our suspect is here on the grounds of the race tracks themselves. Try again.
It seems our bandit was not working alone. Even Eris- goddess of discord has friends- has friends, even if they're friends in low places. That means we need to go deeper into history and find out who is really responsible for all of the changes happening to the historical timeline.
