Trip Overview

  • Spend ten days immersed in the culture & history of Hawaii
  • Explore the Hawaiian culture and the region's marine biology
  • Learn to surf in iconic Waikiki


Trip Itinerary

  • Day 1   Meet in Honolulu and spend the next two weeks exploring the history and culture of Hawaii

  • Day 2   Spend the morning learning to surf in Waikiki before heading to the Bishop Museum to learn about the natural history and cultures of the Pacific.

  • Day 3   Take a day trip to the North Shore of Oahu to snorkel in Shark's Cove to explore the marine wildlife of Oahu before exploring some of the historic Heiau- Hawaiian temples- of the North Shore on an afternoon hike.

  • Day 4   Head out on the water on a traditional Hawaiian sailing catamaran to learn about Native Hawaiian cultural practices before spending the afternoon learning to dance hula with local dance instructors.

  • Day 5   Spend the morning on a second surf outing before having a free afternoon ahead of an evening at Hawaii's Blue Note to enjoy the sounds of up-and-coming musicians and bands.

  • Day 6   Enjoy breakfast at historic Waioli Kitchen before going on a short hike on the Manoa Falls trail to learn about Hawaii's terrestrial wildlife and nature before getting the afternoon off to enjoy the island on your own time.

  • Day 7   Enjoy a free day in Honolulu by exploring more of the island with friends made along the journey or relaxing on the beach with a good book.

  • Day 8   Take a day trip to Coconut Island Research Center to learn about marine biology research happening in Hawaii before spending the afternoon exploring Honolulu's historic Chinatown to learn about the influence if East and Southeast Asian immigrant communities in Hawaii.

  • Day 9   Enjoy a final beach day at Kahala Beach with the friends you've made along the journey before heading to Kahala Mall for a final chance at picking up souvenirs from your journey.

  • Day 10   Depart Oahu after saying final goodbyes to the friends you've made along the way.

Anthro International Field Schools blend fun, hands-on exploration, meaningful encounters with people and cultures, and more free time and choices—with the structure and security of traveling in a small group that allow travelers to get an in-depth experience with anthropological research with an emphasis on travelers enrolled in or recently graduated from university programs.

Travel Insurance

A minimum level of medical and emergency travel insurance is required in order to travel with Anthro International Field Schools. Details are outlined in our Terms and Conditions and you will not be permitted to join the group until you have provided evidence of adequate travel insurance.
