This week's Wonder Woman is one of the GOATS (Greatest of All Time) of women's basketball. Diana Taurasi played basketball throughout her youth before joining the legendary UConn women's basketball team in 2000. During her time at UConn, Taurasi led the university to three consecutive NCAA Championships. During her college years alone, Taurasi racked up trophies and awards including two Naismith College Player of the Year awards, the 2003 Wade Trophy, two Honda Sports Awards, and a 2003 Associated Press Player of the Year award.
In 2004, Diana Taurasi was selected as the overall number one draft pick for the WNBA season- and she did not disappoint. Although her team- the Phoenix Mercury- did not qualify that season for the playoffs, Taurasi averaged seventeen points per game and earned the WNBA Rookie of the Year award. In the following season, maintained sixteen points per game while overcoming an ankle injury. In her third season, Taurasi finally made a household name for herself under a new coach with the Mercury. Taurasi led the league in scoring and the league's records for total points in a season. In her fourth season, Taurasi helped lead the Mercury to a WNBA title. Taurasi's success with Phoenix continued as she earned a spot on the US national team for Olympic rosters in 2004, 2008, 2012, and 2016- winning four total gold medals.
