This week's Wonder Woman had a long journey to success. Tash Sultana began playing music at a young age when she inherited a guitar from her grandfather as a child. Sultana developed a drug addiction early in her life though and by age seventeen was struggling through rehab. After finally overcoming her addiction, Sultana faced the new challenge of having no employment opportunities and turned to playing music on the streets of Melbourne to make ends meet.
In 2008, Tash Sultana joined a band in Melbourne- Mindpilot- which won early awards in local music competitions, but disbanded in 2012. Sultana struggled for the next four years, using social media as a new platform for advertising her music. Finally, in 2016, Sultana reached over a million views for one of her songs less than a week after uploading it online- and record companies noticed. Lemon Tree Music signed the artists who later went on to perform in three major music festivals in Australia and played on the popular Australian radio show Triple J.
In 2017, Tash Sultana began a world tour with events in Australia, New Zealand, the UK, and mainland Europe. Over the course of the year, Sultana scheduled two more tours- one in Australia and a world tour- and began work on a new album. During work on her second album, Sultana provided unedited video from the studio to select fans and performed new material for Triple J.
