Wonder Woman of the Week: Sasha Masakowski

This week’s spotlight comes straight from New Orleans. Hailing from a city famous for jazz, this singer does not disappoint, and continues the long tradition of music born in her city long before her. The award-winning musician is more than just a singer however. She studying acting in college, performed in musicals, and even manages a Latin Electronica band. The contemporary New Orleans music scene would be incomplete without the Wonder Woman of the Week, Sasha Masakowski.

Sasha Masakowski was born into a musical family in New Orleans and almost immediately began wowing crowds in the Crescent City. In 2009, Masakowski received her first major award in music- Best Emerging Artist- from the Big Easy Association. After earning the award, Masakowski went on to form three separate bands, the Sidewalk Strutters, Musical Playground, and Hildegard. [1]

New Orleans jazz musician Sasha Masakowski was no single-genre performer. She widened her range of music by expanding her singing to include Brazilian electronica, American R&B, acoustic folk, and British pop. [2] Masakowski didn’t end there either. She graduated from both the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts and the University of New Orleans, then went further to study at the prestigious Rotterdam Conservatory of Music in the Netherlands. [3]

Like with Kiah Victoria, Sasha Masakowski is an underappreciated artist. Masaksowski is certain to continue building a loyal fan base and expanding her musical spectrum. Since emerging into the music scene of New Orleans jazz in 2007, Masakowski has gained the respect of famous music project “Jam in the Van,” and continues to manage three diverse bands- each dedicated to distinct genres.
