There are few people in the world who can claim to be both genius astrophysicists and expert aircraft pilots, but this week's Wonder Woman is one. That's no surprise if you get to know Sabrina Pasterski- a young woman whom Stephen Hawking himself cites in his research. Pasterski grew up in Chicago public schools where she developed an early love for flight and passion for physics. She earned her pilot's licence at 16- the youngest legal age for holding a pilot license in the US- and flew her first solo flight in an aircraft she built herself.
Pasterski gained early fame among the scientific community with several aerospace agencies (such as Blue Airways and NASA) sending her job offers while she was starting her undergraduate research. Ultimately, Pasterski ended up working on the LArge Hadron Collider in Switzerland before graduating from MIT. Pasterski then began her Master's program at Harvard where she is now a PhD candidate.
Sabrina Pasterski is most well known for two scientific finds- the "Spin Memory Effect" which is used to detect net effects of gravitational waves and the Pasterski–Strominger–Zhiboedov Triangle used in measuring electromagnetic memory. Her list of awards is extensive and wide ranging due to her continued pursuit of her passion in aviation to her dedication to the advancement of women and girls in STEM Fields.
