Wonder Woman of the Week: Rashida Jones

Rashida Jones is a leading television actress who nearly became a lawyer instead of taking roles in shows like The Office and Parks and Rec. The daughter of an actress and a music producer, Jones grew up in a biracial home where she faced racism from both white and black Americans for being neither "white enough" for white people nor "black enough" for the African American community- as evident in a scathing letter 2Pac Shakur wrote about her parents' biracial marriage. After originally starting college to become a lawyer, Jones changed career paths after disillusionment in the wake of the OJ Simpson trial and began pursuing a career in acting.
After several small roles in television and short films, Rashida Jones considered quitting her life in acting. Jones accepted a role in The Office however which allowed her to progress into larger roles- including her role in the television series Parks and Recreation. Jones went on to star in The Muppets with Steve Carrel and Jason Segel as well as the leading role in a police satire Angie Tribeca.
Apart from roles as an actress, Rashida Jones also works as a producer for several films including Hot Girls Wanted- a documentary film about teenage women in the sex industry. The documentary focuses on how the sexism of the male-dominated world of ameauter porn- and the young women who get lured into the industry.
